Why are most athletic shoes generically called tennis shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
The term came about before the rise of all the different types of shoes we have today. At that point, you had track field shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], baseball shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], all with cleats. Loafers and lace up casual shoes were pretty much the norm. The tennis shoe was really the only one out there made for athletic purposes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that didn have cleats. This meant for anyone trying to wear a sneaker like shoe,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you had to get tennis shoes.
Eventually the term came to be used almost as a slang term,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], standing in for any kind of low top athletic shoe.
What with all this design weirdness in athletic shoes nowadays? They have these suction cup or shock absorber looking soles. Hard to find just a plain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], general-purpose "sneaker" anymore.
I haven been able to find shoes that hold up more than a few weeks. The tops crack or the soles fall off,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I probably walk less that the average person. What is a good brand of women athletic shoe?
I found a pair of shoes called "Field trainers" - kinda soccer shoes from Athletic Works at Walmart. I kinda found them cool by their light weight and design.
